Payment Processing Fees
By default the tenant covers processing at checkout so landlords receive the full rent. Owners on Landlord/Investor/Portfolio plans can choose to absorb the fee instead — either way the platform retains the same amount.
| Payment Method | Starter | Landlord / Investor / Portfolio | Platform Fee | Tenant Pays on $1,500 rent |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Bank Account (ACH) | 1% + $1.00 (tenant pays only) |
0.8% + $0.50 | 1%* | Starter $1,531.00 Landlord+ $1,527.50 |
| Credit / Debit Card | — (ACH only on Starter) |
2.9% + $0.30 | 1%* | $1,558.80 |
* 1% platform fee for early access customers — lock in this rate before we move to 2% after our first 100 customers. Examples assume the tenant covers the fee. Checkr bills you or the tenant directly per screening.
Refunds (when your organization issues one through Stripe) return to the tenant’s original payment method. Card refunds typically appear in 5–10 business days; bank (ACH) refunds usually take at least 3–5 business days after processing — timing depends on the bank. Processing fees from the original charge are not refunded. See our FAQ for details.
